European rifle scopes generally have less internal adjustment range than their domestic counterparts. They are designed to be used with mounts that have both windage and elevation adjustments. The scope's precision construction often suffers when used with a mount that does not allow this.

When using mounts with limited or no adjustment capabilities, with a European OR domestic scope, you might "luck out" in your mounting. Chances are, though, that you will run out of adjustment range in the scope and fall short when sighting in or be disappointed in the accuracy your gun produces. All of the problems can be eliminated by using a fully adjustable, "stress-free" scope mount.

A stress-free scope mount?

EAW's Quick-Loc mount utilizes a front ring with opposing locking screws that, when loosened, allow you to raise and lower the rear of the scope by means of changing the rear elevation block in increments of .020" or 2mm. This levels the scope while getting you closer to proper boresighting. Once the scope is level and the front locking screws are tightened, the scope becomes stress-free.

This means no more shimming or refitting of the scope bases to achieve a level scope. The rear ring also has windage adjustment. If your reticle is centered in the scope prior to mounting, you can use the mount itself to achieve up to 95% of the collimating, leaving your scope with all its available adjustment range. It will also limit the number of clicks yo need to sight in, allowing you to get the most out of your scope. Quick-Loc models and pricing

EAW's Magnum Fixed mount is for the shooter who does not need a detachable mount. The system uses the same front ring and base as the Quick-Loc mount, and has a rear base with a perpendicular dovetail on top that attaches directly to the receiver. Rear rings, in .020" or 2mm increments, slide onto the dovetail and are held in place by means of two windage screws. By changing rear rings, you eliminate the need to shim or refit the bases to level the scope. The dovetail provides "shear strength" and holds the ring down onto the base. Other mounts, with less bearing surface, do not have the ability to hold a large scope in place under the heavier recoil of today's magnum calibers. Magnum Fixed models and pricing

How important is a scope mount?
