The company of Schmidt & Bender was founded in 1957 by the precision mechanic Helmut Schmidt and the master precision mechanic Helmut Bender.
Under the house brands of GECO, HORRIDO and AKAH they manufactured scopes for German wholesalers, many of which are still in use by hunters today. At the beginning of the seventies a refined line of scopes was introduced to the market under the brand of Schmidt & Bender. Within ten years, this series of scopes had made a decisive breakthrough toward a permanently successful market position. Owing to active marketing during the following years, it was possible to develop Schmidt & Bender into an independent brand appreciated by hunters all over the world.
Today about 60 people work at Schmidt & Bender’s site of Biebertal situated in Central Hessen between Giessen and Wetzlar. Most of the employees are engaged in the assembly of optical and precise mechanical components in the scopes assembly department.
Another 100 people work in Budapest at the subsidiary of Schmidt & Bender called Hungaria Optikai Kft., which has existed since 1992.
This company developed from the former state-owned enterprise of MOM, Budapest, which had already been an important supplier of optics 15 years before it was taken over by Schmidt & Bender. In addition to plane and spherical optical components, fibre optics elements of excellent quality are produced here, also.

 

To improve international sales Schmidt & Bender Inc. was founded in New Hampshire, USA, on January 1, 1993. A small yet effective operation helps increasing numbers of American hunters enjoy the outstanding value and performance of Schmidt & Bender scopes.

 

Schmidt & Bender maintains a qualified quality management system according to ISO 9001, which was successfully certified by the safety standards authority of the Rhineland in December 1996. In addition to faultless production, this system allows us to concentrate on the needs of our customers while providing the utmost in service to them.

Schmidt & Bender manufactures only rifle scopes, and historically our efforts have been directed at the hunter. During the past few years, however, the demand by target shooters as well as by police and military organizations has increased considerably. Fully 60% of our scopes are sold outside of Germany, indicating the worldwide popularity of Schmidt & Bender products.
